What is MEV-WEB?
The MEV-WEB (WEB-SRM in English) is Revenu Québec’s cloud environment, and it replaces the old physical MEV boxes, called SRMs in English. Your certified sales recording system (SRS) transmits every transaction to it over the Internet and produces the mandatory bill you hand to the customer. No more dedicated box or printer: everything runs through your certified POS.
Who’s covered by mandatory billing?
Operators of establishments subject to Quebec’s mandatory billing measures: restaurants, bars and resto-bars, snack bars, food trucks and similar food services. The transition window from physical MEVs to MEV-WEB closed in 2025. Today, operating without a certified sales recording system connected to the WEB-SRM exposes you to Revenu Québec penalties.
Your obligations in short
Use a Revenu Québec-certified sales system built to communicate with the WEB-SRM; transmit each transaction’s data; and give every customer a bill produced by that system, including the regulated QR code. Is MEV-WEB mandatory for my restaurant?
If your establishment is subject to Quebec’s mandatory billing measures (restaurants, bars, food trucks and similar services), yes. The transition from physical MEV boxes to MEV-WEB completed in 2025; a certified sales recording system (SRS) is now required to operate compliantly.
What’s the difference between the MEV, the MEV-WEB and the SRS?
The MEV (SRM in English) is the old physical box wired to the register, and it can no longer be used. The MEV-WEB (WEB-SRM) is the cloud environment that replaced it, run by Revenu Québec. The SRS is your own sales recording system: the certified register or POS that transmits your sales to the MEV-WEB over the Internet, with no dedicated hardware.
Can my current POS become compliant?
Only if it’s certified by Revenu Québec for the WEB-SRM. If your current system isn’t, you’ll need to migrate to a certified solution like Foodteria, Colossale, Auphan, Cluster or Genius Restaurant, which we install with the WEB-SRM setup included.
How much does MEV-WEB compliance cost?
